1. Pick Your Fruit
Fruits and vegetables are the main ingredient of your smoothie. You should use at least 2 kinds of fruits. For the best results with your Revablend use fresh, ripe, soft fruits – any kind of berries, peaches, mango etc. If you want to include tougher fruit, like apples, it is better to use apple sauce instead, because it will blend much, much easier. For a super healthy green smoothie you can add vegetables such as kale, spinach or arugula.
2. Add Some Liquid
Liquid is necessary to create a drinkable smoothie. The best approach is to fill the blender with 8 ounces of liquid, or just to the top of the blades. If you add too much liquid, certain fruits like strawberries may float, making it hard to come into contact with the blades. You want to be sure to add enough liquid for the smoothie to blend well, and this depends on your ingredients. The juicier the fruits, the less liquid you need to add. Plain old water works just fine, but if you want more flavor you can use herbal tea, milk, nut or seed milk, coconut water or any kind of vegetable or fruit juice.
3. Make it Creamy
The secret to a creamy smoothie comes from bananas. Adding half or even a whole banana makes a fantastic base for the smoothie, giving it the perfect creamy texture. If you don’t like bananas and you want to achieve thick, creamy texture you can use cooked oats, avocado, streamed pumpkin, greek yogurt or silken tofu.
4. Chill the Mix
If you are not using frozen berries, then you will need ice to chill your smoothie. Revablend blades are powerful enough to crush ice. The main question is, are you? Remember that Revablend is manually powered, so if you do not want to turn your smoothie into a serious workout, add crushed ice instead of ice cubes. Another way to do this is to add the fruit to the blender, and store it in the fridge until you are ready to add liquid and blend.
5. Add Flavor (Optional)
If you need a flavor boost you can try to sweeten things up. For a healthy smoothie avoid table sugar or artificial sweeteners. Choose natural options such as honey, agave nectar, organic maple syrup, a few dates, Stevia or vanilla extract. If you’re looking for even more pop, add a pinch of spice like cinnamon or nutmeg, ginger powder or even cayenne pepper.
6. Energy Boost (Optional)
You can take your smoothie to the next level with highly nutritive superfoods like ground flaxseeds, bee pollen, protein powder, acai or coconut powder, spirulina etc. Dry ingredients like protein powder should go last, to avoid sticking to the walls of the cup.
